The e-cigarette figures are an approximation since some countries - 109 in sum, and numerous in Africa and Asian regions - fail to collect statistics.

According to the study, as of recent February this period, at least 86 million e-cigarette users were mature individuals, primarily in wealthy states.

And at minimum 15 million youth aged 13 and 15 already vape, based on studies from 123 nations.

While many nations have tried to introduce e-cigarette regulations to tackle underage vaping in the past few years, by the end of 2024, 62 states yet had no measure in effect, and 74 states had no age limit at which e-cigarettes may be bought, says the health organization.

Meanwhile, tobacco use has been decreasing - from an approximated 1.38 billion consumers in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.

Prevalence of tobacco consumption among women dropped the most - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.

With males, the reduction was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.

But 20% of grown-ups internationally even now consumes tobacco.

Experts say vaping is considerably less harmful than tobacco products, and can help you quit smoking. It is not recommended for non-smokers.
